There is a particular kind of quiet that Japanese and Nordic design have both arrived at: a room stripped of what it doesn't need, warmed by what it does.

It is called Japandi. Chordiality turns this aesthetic into sound.

Japanese poems meet a Scandinavian soundscape in the Dutch premiere of Japanese Seasons by young Swedish composer Alvin Vikman. Sven-David Sandström combines sensual poetry with a minimalism that culminate in beautiful melodies in his Four Songs of Love. Toru Takemitsu, one of Japan's greatest composers, takes elements of nature as his subject. His choral works, set to his own texts, are so beloved that they've become something close to folk song. The music of composer and jazz pianist Jukka Linkola draws on traditional Finnish folk culture and poetry, with songs about togetherness, about nature, and about not taking any of it too seriously.
